A few weeks ago, as we stood in my mom’s backyard after doing what felt like our 100th podcast about What To Do When You Get Dumped, my mom looked at me and said “We just released our second book, Hallie. Can you believe we get to do this together?”
It really does feel like a dream come true. And what’s been really special is all the podcasts and interviews have really deepened our understanding of the book – how desperate people are to talk about heartbreak, how the book’s honesty, humor and vulnerability inspires the same thing in readers.
Interviewers’ curiosity about our collaboration has helped me appreciate its uniqueness. A conversation with a CityBeat reporter made me remember something so uncanny. My mom used to write for children’s magazines, like Cricket and Ladybug. When she’d send in her submissions, 5-year-old me would beg her to let me include my art in the envelope. And she would let me! Looking back at that from this vantage point makes me feel like we were always meant to end up here.
Anyway, since our book now been out in the world for 3 months (!) and I wanted to share some of the wonderful conversations we’ve had about it.
Publishers Weekly spoke with the team behind our book for their Endnotes feature. A great little window into the publishing process for anyone who’s curious. (Kate’s newsletter/forthcoming book is also a must-read if you’re curious about publishing.)
I had a wonderful and wide-ranging conversation with Molly Wizenberg for her newsletter I’ve Got A Feeling. We talked not just about Dumped but about parenthood, future projects, memoir writing, and so much more.

I have been on the library waitlist since before the book came out, and I’m finally in the next position! It’s clearly a hit in Chicago :)
